What is the Church?

A couple of weeks ago I asked the girls in my small group to think about the question, “What is the church?” They had to answer in more than one sentence and back it up with Scripture. I’d like to share one of the answers with you, written by Kyndal Nichols.

“The church is the body of Christ, a group of believers gathered in the name of Jesus. Matthew 18:20 says, ‘For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them.’ We are one body. Ephesians 4:4-6 says, ‘There is one body, and one spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called – one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and one father of all, who is over all and through all in all.’ Later in verses 12 and 13, it talks about the body of Christ being built up to reach unity in the faith, the knowledge of the Son of God, and the fullness of Christ. As the church we seek Christ, and spread the Gospel. We fellowship with one another, and pray for each other. We hold people accountable, and meet together for worship. We are one in Christ and we make disciples, not only in the church, but also in the world. The church is the body of Christ seeking the fullness of Christ.”
